The Accessibility Improvement Grant Program can provide up to $12,000 to income-eligible homeowners in Cumberland County. This assistance is in the form of a grant and no lien is recorded against the property.
A grant agreement between the homeowner and the Redevelopment Authority will be signed. If the accessibility improvement can not be completed with the $12,000 maximum grant amount, the homeowner is required to provide the additional funds in order to complete the job. If the homeowner can not provide the additional funds, no grant will be given. An application process must be completed before a grant approval is given.
To be eligible for the accessibility improvement grant, the owner of the property must reside in the property. Mobile homes are permissible as long as the resident owns the land on which the mobile home is placed. The homeowner must be current on all property taxes and municipal utilities. Homeowner’s insurance must be in place.
At least one member of the household must have a permanent disability that limits access to and use of the home, and the disability must be verified by a physician statement or Social Security Disability determination. Income eligibility is determined by total household size and total household income. Refer to the qualifying income limits table below.
Examples of eligible modifications include installation of ramps, widening of doorways, visual doorbells, audio phones, lowering kitchen counters and bathroom alterations to include grab bars. Other modifications not listed may also be eligible.
